(4/8/2010)  I found this caterpillar on my deck.

We're supposed to have an active Tent Caterpillar season this summer, so I emailed the picture to the Bellaire office of MSU Extension and asked for information.  Within the hour, office manager Gayle Rider replied that it was a Winter Cutworm and sent a pamphlet describing the damage to agriculture that it can cause.
